Description
Under general supervision of the City Engineer, the Engineer I / II is responsible for assisting in providing professional engineering services in connection with traffic operations, safety and mobility for the City of College Station.

Principal Duties:

Perform professional engineering work in administering, planning, evaluating, and designing traffic engineering studies and plans.
Conduct evaluations of transportation and safety concerns, including intersection sight triangles, speed studies, and traffic data collection. Correspond with citizens about concerns and/or complaints.
Review and approve traffic control plans associated with City or development construction projects.
Evaluate and review traffic impact analyses and coordinate with Planning and Development Services & the Capital Improvements Division regarding comments and recommendations.

Monitor traffic and collect data during special events or as deemed necessary.
Develop traffic control plans when needed for street maintenance or other activities.
Evaluate sign and striping installations for construction and maintenance activities.
Assist with traffic engineering studies, corresponding with citizens about concerns and/or complaints, managing consultants and capital improvement projects.

Assist with the evaluation, and planning the City’s transportation system. Help determine causes of and recommend solutions for traffic congestion.
Attend and participate in professional group meetings, stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of transportation engineering.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

Engineer I:
Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering and four (4) to six (6) years of civil engineering experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Texas Professional Engineer (PE) License, or the ability to obtain by reciprocity within six (6) months of date of hire. Valid Texas Driver’s License. Knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), AASHTO’s A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets, and the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM).

Engineer II:
Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering and six (6) to eight (8) years of civil engineering experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Texas Professional Engineer (PE) License, or the ability to obtain by reciprocity within six (6) months of date of hire. Valid Texas Driver’s License. Knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), AASHTO’s A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets, and the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM).

Preferred:
Experience in municipal government. Knowledge of traffic management technology and transportation systems. Demonstrated public speaking abilities.
