Description
This position is responsible for assisting in providing professional engineering services in connection with traffic operations, safety and mobility for the City of College Station.

Principal Duties
Perform professional engineering work in administering, planning, evaluating, and designing traffic engineering studies and plans.
Conduct evaluations of transportation and safety concerns, including intersection sight triangles, speed studies, and traffic data collection. Correspond with citizens about concerns and/or complaints.
Review and approve traffic control plans associated with City or development construction projects.
Evaluate and review traffic impact analyses and coordinate with Planning and Development Services & the Capital Improvements Division regarding comments and recommendations.
Monitor traffic and collect data during special events or as deemed necessary.
Develop traffic control plans when needed for street maintenance or other activities.
Evaluate sign and striping installations for construction and maintenance activities.
Assist with traffic engineering studies, corresponding with citizens about concerns and/or complaints, managing consultants and capital improvement projects.
Attend and participate in professional group meetings, stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of transportation engineering.

Description
Under general supervision of the Director, the Sr. Traffic Engineer is responsible for overseeing and providing professional engineering services in connection with traffic operations, safety and mobility for the City of College Station and for hiring, supervising, and coordinating the work activities of the Traffic Engineering, Traffic Signals, and Traffic Signs divisions.

Principal Duties
Perform professional engineering work in administering, planning, developing, programming, and designing the traffic engineering and transportation programs.
Supervise, train, schedule and direct the assigned traffic division staff in addressing traffic safety concerns and problems; complete employee performance evaluations, and make hiring, terminating and disciplinary decisions or recommendations.
Responsible for improving safety and mobility by conducting traffic engineering studies, approving signal operations, monitoring signing and striping maintenance, corresponding with citizens about their concerns and/or complaints, managing consultants and capital improvement projects, chairing the city’s Traffic Management Team, designing and reviewing traffic control plans, representing the City at meetings with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), and providing recommendations to the Director of Public Works and City Manager in matters regarding traffic and transportation.
Develop and establish policies and standards for safety, efficiency, and quality of work and ensure subordinates adequately receive all related training.
Establish plans, procedures, and schedules and direct work flow to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily and in a timely manner.
Coordinate projects and establish a close working relationship with consultants and contractors in the preparation of plans, studies and specifications for the construction of CIP projects; as well as coordinate with other departments, divisions, and outside agencies as required.
Develop annual operating budget and work plan for divisions; procure all contractors, materials, tools and equipment used for program implementation in accordance with City policy, as well as, monitor and manage all financial aspects of the divisions.
Develop and maintain good employee relations promoting a work environment that will encourage employees to express their views, suggestions, plans, problems, and provide advice and counsel, handle and attempt to resolve employee grievances and complaints.
