TexITE is now accepting nominations for the 2017 Transportation Engineer of the Year and Younger Member of the Year and submissions for the Technical Paper of the Year. Complete information on the awards and how to nominate someone or submit a paper can be found on the award nominations page. The due date for all three honors is May 15, 2017.

Student Fellowship Applications Due Oct. 31

Up to two fellowships of $1,000 each may be awarded annually to the two highest-ranking candidates from Texas. Candidates must be planning to pursue a master’s degree in traffic engineering, geometric design, and/or transportation planning. To apply for the fellowship, download and complete the application and reference forms and return to the TexITE awards coordinator by 5:00 pm on October 31.

FHWA Issues Memos on Design and Speed

The Federal Highway Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation recently issued two memorandums that may be of interest to TexITE members that work on highway design projects. The first is a memorandum on the Relationship Between Design Speed and Posted Speed. The second is a Proposed Revision of Thirteen Controlling Criteria for Design and New Guidance on Documentation for Design Exceptions. The second memorandum is in reference to the Federal Register Notice from October 7, 2015.

UT-Austin Wins District Traffic Bowl

University of Texas at Austin 2015 Traffic Bowl Team

Congratulations to the student chapter at the University of Texas at Austin for winning the district traffic bowl competition for the second consecutive year. They will travel to Florida in August to compete in the international event and defend their 2014 crown. Members of this year's team (from left to right): Ben Wallach, Venktesh Pandey, Solomon Nyanhongo, and Rachel James (alternate).
