The Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) has been a standard used in planning, design, analysis, and operation of highway traffic facilities in the United States since 1950s. It has also been widely used abroad, and has spurred the development of similar manuals in other countries. This presentation provides abbreviated version of the history and updates to the latest 2010 version. In addition, some interesting facts and very personal view and observations of the presenter where it is heading, and what is important to keep in perspective in regards to interpretation of results.
