Welcome to the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) South Texas Section web site. ITE is a community of transportation professionals acting as a source of expertise, knowledge and ideas. The South Texas ITE Section (STITE) is a part of the Texas District (TexITE) and includes the area between Del Rio, San Antonio, Victoria and the Rio Grande Valley. We welcome you to attend our events and become a Section member. Membership with International ITE is encouraged but not required.

News and Upcoming Events

June Section Meeting

The June Meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 and feature an Ethics presentation by Helen Valkavich of the City of San Antonio. The meeting will be held at Grady's BBQ at 6510 San Pedro in San Antonio.

The cost of the meeting is $10 for members, $15 for nonmenbers, $5 students and includes lunch (brisket, turkey, trimmings, tea). Online reservations have ended. The cost of the meeting without reservations is $15; however, space is limited and admission to the event may not be available.

International ITE 2009 Annual Meeting & Exhibit

The ITE 2009 Annual Meeting will be held in San Antonio, August 9-12, 2009 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. The meeting, which is divided into five tracks, offering 52 technical sessions. The tracks are Traffic Engineering and Design, Safety, Planning, Transportation Operations, Conversation Circles and Professional Development Seminars.

In addition to a renowned technical program, you will have the opportunity to network with transportation professionals from a wide range of specialty areas. Please visit the ITE Meeting Page for registration and meeting details.

Past Meetings

South Texas/Capital Area Joint Meeting

The 2nd Annual South Texas & Capital Area Joint Meeting was held in San Marcos and featured John Barton of the Texas Department of Transportation speaking on "The Transportation Economy in Texas" and Gary Gordon with the Transportation Security Administration speaking on "Overview of the TSA's Surface Program and The New Regulations." The meeting turned out to be another success.

April Section & UTSA Student Chapter Meeting

The April Meeting at UTSA was well attended with Jim Dale of PTV America giving a very informative presentation on “Analyzing the Transportation System - What's Possible with Simulation.” Pate Engineers sponsored the meal cost for the students.

March Section Meeting

January Section Meeting

The January Section Meeting was a huge success with over 50 members attending. Special thanks goes to Gilmer Gaston of Pape-Dawson for making a great presentation on "US 281 Superstreet."
