<title>Proposed Revisions to the TxMUTCD</title>

<description>On July 11th, TxDOT published proposed rules in the Texas Register for changes to the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. The changes incorporate the new minimum sign retroreflectivity standards and clarifies the term "open to public travel."</description>

<title>In Memory of Jack Hatchell, 1938-2008</title>

<description>Jack Hatchell, who served as TexITE's President in 1981-82 and later served as Chariman of ITE District 5, passed away on June 28, 2008.  A TexITE member since 1967, Jack held BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering from Texas A&amp;M.  During his distinguished transportation engineering career, he held positions with TxDOT, the City of Midland, Pinnell, Anderson, Wilshire and Associates, and Barton-Aschman Associates before founding his own firm, Jack Hatchell and Associates.   In 2006, Jack was named TexITE's Transportation Engineer of the Year.
Jack blended his professional career with public service.  He served on Plano's Planning and Zonning Commission from 1974-75 and was a member of the Plano City Council from 1975-85.  For three of those terms he was Plano's Mayor Pro Tem.  Since 1985, he had served as a Collin County Commissioner.  In 2003-04, Jack was President of North Central Texas COG's Executive Board from 2004-05 and he chaired the Regional Transportation Council....</description>

<description>A Notice of Proposed Amendments (NPA) to the MUTCD has been published in the Federal Register on January 2, 2008 for public review and comments. This NPA contains comprehensive revisions that are proposed for incorporation into the next edition of the MUTCD. A 7-month period is being provided for comments to the docket, which will close on July 31, 2008. The proposed MUTCD text, figures, and tables are also available for public review and comment.</description>
