Congratulations to the Texas A&M student chapter on winning the ITE Collegiate Traffic Bowl champtionship at the Annual Meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia. BulletOfficer and By-Law Election Results:

Congratulations to the newly elected district board officers: Dave Carter, vice-president/president-elect and Melisa Finley, secretary-treasurer. They, along with Brian Shamburger, current vice-president, will begin their term on January 1, 2011. Also elected to the TexITE board of directors was at-large representative Jeryl Hart. And finally, the proposed by-laws change regarding district board meetings was passed. Voter turnout was excellent. Thanks to all who voted.

Bullet2010 Award Winners Recognized:

Congratulations to all of the award winners announced at the summer meeting. Dr. Gene Hawkins, Texas A&M University, is the 2010 Transportation Engineer of the Year. Nanditha Togar, Urban Engineers Group, is the Younger Member of the Year. Dustin Qualls, Traffic Engineers, Inc., was given the award for outstanding technical paper. Texas A&M University was named outstanding student chapter. And the South Texas Section received the section activities award.

BulletVoting Booth Now Open: The voting booth is now open for voting members of TexITE to cast their ballots in the district election. The on-line voting booth will remain open until midnight on June 15.

Those members that do not reside in any of the six TexITE sections are also able to vote for their section representative for 2011-2012.

BulletTxDOT Seeks Input on Transportation Plan: The Texas Department of Transportation is developing the Statewide Long-Range Transportation Plan 2035 in order to plan for the future growth of Texas and meet federal requirements. This plan will establish a framework for TxDOT to address the challenges of our aging infrastructure, urban densification, and a growing population. Meetings will be held throughout the state during the month of May. For more details on dates and locations, please download the TxDOT news release.

BulletCall for Papers - District Technical Award: TexITE announces its call for papers for the 2010 TexITE Technical Paper Award. This award is presented annually to recognize the outstanding technical paper prepared by a non-student member or affiliate of TexITE. Papers are due by April 30. See the award nominations page for more details and to download the nomination form. The author of the selected paper will receive a $100 cash award.

Bullet2009 MUTCD Is Now Available: On December 16, 2009 a final rule adopting the 2009 Edition of the MUTCD was published in the Federal Register. States must adopt the 2009 National MUTCD as their legal State standard for traffic control devices within two years.

BulletITE Collegiate Traffic Bowl is Coming: ITE is in the final stages of preparing for the first annual ITE Collegiate Traffic Bowl competition. Each district will host a competition to crown a champion to represent the district at the ITE Annual Meeting in Vancouver. The Texas District will hold their competition at the Winter Meeting in Frisco in January. Stay tuned for more details.

BulletDART Station Renamed in Honor of Jack Hatchell: From DART: West Plano Transit Center has become the Jack Hatchell Transit Center, in memory of the longtime and highly respected Collin County official and transportation leader.

Jack Hatchell was also a longtime member of TexITE who passed away in June 2008.
