Principal Civil Engineer - Permanent Way

Description:
This position is responsible for the study, design, specification and services of rail systems. Under broad direction, supervises and leads a group of engineers. Provides technical direction over a group and is responsible for developing lower level professionals. Plans, budgets, organizes, and controls an important segment of a very extensive and highly diversified engineering program or an entire engineering program of moderate scope. Job role is responsible for a measurable asset such as an assigned staff and budget.

  • Work independently to complete the planning, design, and execution of projects that meet or exceed client expectations, are within the agreed budget, and are delivered on or ahead of schedule and with a minimal risk to the health and safety of people and the environment
  • Demonstrating strong understanding of client needs and achieve a high level of satisfaction
  • Proactively provide direction, mentoring and support to bid teams and project staff
  • Supervise project staff and review deliverables to ensure compliance with technical and quality assurance standards
  • Assist the Sales leader to develop business opportunities to win work
  • Monitor costs on an ongoing basis and do not allow them to exceed the predetermined and approved budget costs
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and industry knowledge
  • Prepare technically sound, well written and easily understood proposals and reports

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is essential
  • 15 years railway experience including design and practical experience in an operating environment (either maintenance or construction)
  • Strong technical design ability specifically permanent way
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Previous experience with a senior role
  • Previous Project Management/Supervision experience
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial arrangements and relationships
  • Strong practical knowledge of and commitment to health and safety in a railway operating environment
  • Requires capacity to work harmoniously with other employees using fundamental interpersonal skills required of the work setting
