Garland offers exciting recreational activities and a variety of attractions—all in one welcoming community. Get out on the greens and enjoy a round of golf at Firewheel Golf Park—a 63–hole, championship–style golf complex that features three unique courses. Or check out Bass Pro Shops situated along the shore of scenic Lake Ray Hubbard.

The fall meeting will be held at the Hyatt Place Dallas/Garland, which is located off of President George Bush Turnpike in the upscale Firewheel area of north Garland. The hotel is easily accessible from both DFW International Airport and Dallas Love Field, and is within minutes from a variety of restaurants and entertainment options.

TexITE has secured a block of rooms at the rate of $107.00 per night (plus tax). This rate will include Wednesday night (for those that arrive early) and Saturday night (for those extending their stay). If you wish to extend your stay outside of these dates, you will need to book a separate reservation on the Web site or contact the hotel directly at (972) 414-3500.

The group rate will be valid as long as the hotel has rooms available, up to and including August 26, 2011.  The group rate will be honored after August 26th as long as there are rooms available to be sold in the same room category.

Engineering Ethics Seminar

An engineering ethics seminar will be held on Wednesday from 5:00-6:00 pm (prior to the Highway Products Group reception) at the conference hotel. The seminar will satisfy the continuing education professional ethics requirements required by the Texas Board of Professional Engineers.


Highway Capacity Manual Workshop

TexITE will host a one-day workshop to provide you with an opportunity to learn from McTrans staff the changes to each chapter of the 2010 Highway Capacity Manual with last hour reserved to review changes to Highway Capacity Software.  Cost is $150 per person.  The first 25 people to register will get a reduced rate of $50 per person.  Deadline to register is Tuesday, September 6.  *Lunch NOT included.

Workshop Overview: This workshop has been developed for transportation professionals interested in the latest updates and software applications to the HCM 2010. In addition to a general overview, each procedure will be presented to highlight the changes in comparison with the HCM 2000. A demonstration of the HCS 2010 will be included to illustrate how the new methods will be implemented in software. Participants in the workshop will earn 6 PDHs.

Technical Tour

The technical tour will explore downtown Garland’s transit oriented development and surrounding transportation facilities.  Participants will learn about the assembly of land needed to construct the development, the needed and desired infrastructure changes, the key elements of the city-private partnership.  On-street parking, intersection design, pedestrian and bicycle accommodation, parking garage and roadway cross-section changes will be highlighted. ADA and crosswalk considerations will be shown, including the rectangular rapid flashing beacon installation between the development and the light rail station across the street.  Lessons learned and things that work well and not so well will be presented.

Kick things off on Wednesday evening by visiting with your colleagues at the Highway Products Group reception and exhibits. Thursday Night Social

Our Thursday night social will be a taste of good ole southern cooking, a beautiful view, and singing & dancing! Join us for an evening at the Firewheel Golf Park Pavilion where Babe’s Chicken House will provide the food, and YOU will provide the entertainment!  Pick out your songs, and get ready to show off your vocal talents with TexITE’s first ever karaoke night!

Shuttle bus service to and from the hotel to the Pavilion will be provided until 9:30 in the evening. The younger members (and young-at-heart members) will be gathering at the Buffalo Wild Wings next to the hotel following the social.


Golf Tournament

Join members and vendors for a day at the links at Firewheel Golf Park where 63-holes of championship caliber golf, include three regulation courses in designs that both challenge and delight.

Tee-off will start at 9:00 AM on Wednesday morning. The cost to play is $60 per player which includes range balls, cart, golf, and a burger lunch following play. If you have any questions about the golf tournament (or to form specific groups), please email or call the golf coordinator, John Black, at (972) 757-5126. The deadline to register for the golf tournament is Wednesday, September 7.

CCTexITE will be hosting a Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament on Wednesday evening following the Highway Products Group reception. Join in the game for fun and prizes. No experience necessary.


Rockin’ W Ranch Get-Together

ITE International President Robert C. Wunderlich cordially invites any member of the TexITE family out to the Rockin’ W Ranch on Saturday, September 17 for an afternoon of food, fun, fellowship, and (perhaps) song. The hosts will provide burgers and some refreshments. They ask that anyone coming bring something along (e.g. side dish) to share and something to sit on. The event will be from noon to 6:00 pm. If you think you will attend, they ask that you please RSVP here so they can get a headcount. Please direct any questions to the host. Directions to the ranch (which is just east of Commerce, Texas) will be provided at the meeting.
